MAS DE MASOS WINERY

Mas de Masos Farm has about twenty estates forming two entire valleys which enjoy a unique micro climate. Mas de Masos was named after the unification of several farms and its total extension is 60 hectares, some of which are only half cultivated, combining the plantations of vines and the forest so as to preserve the climate of the environment.

The land is made of slate, it is surrounded by small mountains and lies from 400 to 650 meters over sea level. More than half of the property has been terraced taking advantage of the lands more appropriate for the vineyard. The remaining part is Mediterranean pine forest, ilexes, oaks and weeds, creating a small oasis between the mountains. These characteristics made this place a privileged natural location with a very special and unique microclimate.

The climate is warm and dry, with a rainfall of 400 to 500 litres per sq m. annually.Some years the rainfall is less, lowering the water level to 300 litres per sq m.This farm faces to the midday sun and is protected from the east dry wind sand nurtured by the humid and strong winds of the south-west.

Water is a very precious element due to its scarcity. It is extracted from small slate mines in the slate rocks. This demonstrate the great skills of our ancestors, who used it to water the small gardens from the different farms and it is used today for the maintenance of the winery and its garden.

The stock is controlled daily in its vegetative cycle till the end of the ripening, so as to achieve a quality product. Once the harvest is completed, the grapes are stored in small boxes so as to preserve the form. This is very important to maintain all the properties before the beginning of the elaboration process. Grapes used at Mas de Masos Farm are local varieties as Grenache del Paishairy Grenache and Carignane and they are combined with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Turiga Nacional and Viognier.

Our family has work consistently in the land. With a careful and studied wine elaboration, we have selected the great aging MAS DE MASOS,a selected aging wine MASOS D'EN CUBELLS, a wine from the youngest vineyards SIRSELL, and a white wine fermented within the bottle ENLLAC.
